It was in the 4th century A.D. when a Holy man was beheaded in Samos. Agios Ermogenis, was driven to martyrdom since he did not change his faith as the overlord of Samos, Santorinos commanded him to do.
A few Christians that were loyal to him, took the body of the Saint, placed it in a casket and through it in the sea, in order to avoid any further debasement from the idolatrous people.
The waves lead the casket containing the body of Agios Ermogenis towards the east Mediterranean, on the south coast of Cyprus. It was washed up to the beach of Episkopi, where the settlers of the village found it.
They built a small Church and put the tomb of the Saint in it, next to the point where the waves “donated” another Saint to Cyprus. They built the chapel of Agios Ermogenis.
The chapel is found 100 metres from the beach of Agios Ermogenis or, otherwise, the Curium beach. It is found in a small forest with eucalyptus trees, under the shade of the ancient amphitheatre of “Kourion” as well as the ruins of the ancient town with the same name.
Next to the chapel there is a very well conserved ancient royal tomb.
