Upon your excursion to Mitsero, apart from the old metal mines, the Kokkinolimni (red lake) and the two small dams, you will have the opportunity to see the small chapel dedicated to a relatively “unknown” Saint. Agios Marios.
The small chapel is found built between a small torrent and the river Rodanos. The two green beds connect a few dozens of metres north and continue “carrying” the water into the small dam about 2 kilometres away.
When you find yourselves in the area, make sure to learn about the history of the place. A few metres east is the point where all the “mud” and the useless materials after the sorting of gold was done, was thrown. A few hundreds of metres north, you will find an old water reservoir, literally built in a rock. A little lower, you will see the area where the gold-bearing ores were being processed and gold was extracted from them. On the south, there are leftovers of the area where gold processing was executed and from there it was taken to banks abroad.
A small church was built in the area with all these leftovers of a turbulent period of time, hopefully in this way this place will soften after the “fever” of gold.
The chapel is only a hundred metres west of the road going to the Monastery of Agios Panteleimonas, in a garden mainly planted with Rosemary.
