In Cape Greco you shall see one of the most amazing natural bridges in Cyprus. It is called the bridge of Koraka. It is a masterpiece of the best creator, nature. Millions of years were needed to degrade the hard rock in order to create a bridge above the sea.
It is found on the road towards the chapel of Agioi Anargyroi and it is part of the natural path called “sea caves”.
Its unbelievable beauty, that no one will ever be capable of copying, is in danger of disappearing for ever. The degradation of the foundations of the bridge are at such an advanced degree that a very strong wind or a rainstorm will be enough for the natural monument to end up in the sea.
A workshop with the help of an excavator, is trying to create a channel 30 metres north in order for the waters to be drained away from the point where the bridge is found. Will this be enough?
The Department of Forests has fenced the area so that the thousands of visitors do not approach the dangerous area.
"What does this bridge mean for Agia Napa?", we asked people who work for its salvage.
"Agia Napa has two things to offer to a visitor. Its sun and its rocks. If the bridge collapses, it will be as if the Petra tou Romiou gets deployed, and the consequences will be the same." This was their answer.
It is a great responsibility for the Agia Napa community council. There has to be a way to be found for the bridge to continue to exist.
It is a symbol and a trademark for the whole of the peninsula of Cape Greco and of the national forest park of the area.
