In the year 2000 the chapel of Agios Dimitrianos, bishop of Kithiria, of Cyprus was built out of stone, next to the ruins of the old church. It is a very small but beautiful construction, that is cruciform with a dome.
It is found in Tersefanou 200 metres after the Agia Marina church and the water basin. On the surroundings there are some remains of the old church.
In the current period, the chapel is being covered in iconography and a rare occasion is given to the visitor to watch the iconographer work. The main part of the church has been completed and it is the aisle’s turn to be covered in iconography. The only part left is the domed arch of the western entrance.
Agios Dimitrianos as the bishop of Kithiria, lived during the years of King Theofilos iconomachos (iconoclast) (829-843 A.D.) and was born in the Syka village of Kithiria. His father was a priest. He became a monk and afterwards a presbyter of the bishop Eustathios of Chitra, whom he succeeded to the throne. Dimitrianos took part in the captivity of his flock by the Egyptians, and after that he returned with it to Cyprus.
