The decision of the authorities to determine some beaches as “beaches for dogs” is the proof of the animal welfare feelings of the Cypriots. On the coastal "front" of Meneou community, is where one of these beaches is found. It is a very small part of the beach that was once known as «Spyros Beach» and it is located south of the new airport of Larnaca, only 50 meters away from the premises of desalination building.
It is sandy and has a width of about 30 meters. The animals can enjoy the clean waters of the beach with their owners, without disturbing.
In general the beach is kept clean and most pet owners collect their excreta. However, there are others who not only do not collect them, but they let their pets wander about freely on the beach and the adjacent dirt road which is used as a passage to other parts of the beach. This is dangerous.
It would be good, if the authorities supervised and inspected the area more often and applied the operating rules on those not following them.
