In the village called Lefkara, found on the mountainous part of Larnaca, there is a series of small and big Churches. The biggest one is dedicated to Timios Stavros (the Holy Cross) and is found in the centre of the village.
In the Church, in a hidden crypt, there is a big silver cross and in it there is a small part of the Holy wood on which Jesus Christ was crucified.
The original Church that is part of the current one, was built in the 14th century. During the years that followed, the Church was extended according to the needs of the believers. Thus today we see a combination of styles in the construction.
The belfry was added in 1857 and was crafted with ornate carvings. It is a monument that every visitor of Lefkara should not neglect to visit.
