The perimetrical path of observation of nature of the Xyliatou dam starts from the picnic area that is found at the foot of the dam, and after it covers a distance of 3.8 kilometres, it ends up back in the picnic area.
The path demands appropriate preparation from the walker since it is graded 2 on the difficulty scale (3= very difficult). There are slopes, inclines, and steps. At points where there is a view, there are benches for rest.
On your way it is possible that you meet the very rare species of snake that is the Cypriot water snake called Natrix Natrix. It is a snake that is in danger of becoming extinct and the most important part of this is that it is not at all dangerous for humans. Therefore, if you see it, do not bother it, since the dam and the picnic area are its natural environment and its biotope.
It is protected by law and the government and trespassing, leads to very important fines and even restrictive penalties.
