The chapel dedicated to Agios Georgios Tropeoforos is found in Choirokoitia. It is a very old construction and it is built on the west shore of a small torrent, 4 kilometres west of the village.
On the east side of the small Church, there is a grove that includes a great number of perennial trees. In some cases, the trees are more than 1200 years old. The church is built of stone and is covered with wooden shelter.
On the west there is a great round stone that has a big hole in the middle. It is said that whoever has health problems, passes through this stone in order to get help to recover.
On the inside, there is a recess in the southern wall in which you can see a fresco representing Agios Georgios on his horse, and with the help of a pole, killing the dragon. It is a very beautiful representation of the Saint.
The chapel, even though it is far from the village, is visited by many worshipers during the whole day.
The location that has been chosen for its construction, is very quiet and far away from any kind of noise. The ancient grove “matched” wonderfully with the small forest created recently by the people who take care of the chapel. Young cypresses are found along the perimeter of the yard.
A very old carob tree was “transformed” into a belfry, as a bell was placed on its branches, to ring sweetly. On the west side, another huge carob tree, in the centre of the paved yard, was transformed to a place of relaxation. while your eyes cannot get enough of observing the surrounding area.
