The Venetian bridge of Elia (olive tree) is found on the confluent of the river Diarizos that has its sources at the village of Foini which is why it is called “Foiniotis”. It is found only a few metres from the point of intersection of the river or Kaminaria with Foiniotis, which along with other confluents, form the river of Diarizos.
It got its name from the only olive tree that existed in the location in which it was built. The village “Treis Elies” found a few kilometres northeast also got its name from the same olive tree. Since it was rare at the time and the altitude, the olive tree was a point of reference for travelers.
It is a very pointed bridge with one arch. It is built out of stone and it is part of the trail “Enetika Gefyria”.
In the olden days it was the only passage to Foiniotis for the travelers going to and from Paphos. From there on they continued towards the bridge of Tzielefos which connected the shores of Diarizos and then in a distance of seven kilometres they found the bridge of Roudia. From this bridge, the road lead to the village of Vretsia and from there to the villages of Paphos.
The bridge of Elia is found at a distance of two kilometres north of Tzielefos, four kilometres before the village of Kaminaria. On your way you will see the only bridge that exists in the area. It is a narrow bridge and as soon as you pass it, park your car and on your right you will face the Venetian Bridge of Elia. Even though the west exit is a tangent to the road, it still remains invisible if you are on the motorway.
