Venetian Bridges - Tzielefos Bridge - Pera Vasa - Paphos

Tzielefos bridge is of Venetian origins and is found 5 kilometres from Agios Nikolaos, in the direction of Kaminaria. It is built on the Diarizos river, a river that has been called “barbarian” by the people, because of the great noise its waters make.

A few years ago, the government of the place wanted to put a big dam in place in the area, which would result to both the bridge and the great dimensions of the Diarizos gorge to go under the waters. The people were against this, and therefore a smaller dam was built far away from the bridge.

The bridge was functional until 50 years ago, when back then it was the only passage the Barbarian river could access and unite the villages of Treis Elies, Kaminaria, Agios Nikolaos with the ones of Vretsia, Agios Ioannis and Mylikouri.

Today it is a tourist destination and thousands of tourists have scheduled visits to it.

It would be good to have an organised picnic area close to the bridge, or between it and the Arminou dam close by. Due to the non-existence of these facilities for the visitors, they use the nature’s path as they like.
