Panagia Eleousa - Agios Constantinos

Chapels in Cyprus - Panagia Eleousa, Agios Constantinos, Papoutsa, Limassol

Among the ruins of the old village in Agios Constantinos in the Limassol district, there is a small chapel dedicated to the Panagia Eleousa. It is a single-aisled basilica bearing a pitched tiled and pointed roof. It is covered with a type of flat tiles, which were constructed in a contemporary pottery and that's because the old church was completely destroyed by fire.

After the fire completed its work in burning the Church, residents found the icon of the Virgin,  which had been severely damaged in the ashes. They painted again.

Nobody knows from which century the church is in the area. Some say, it is from the 16th, after they found coins of that era.

The church of Panagia (as it is called by the inhabitants) is located in the center of the area where until a few decades ago was the old centre of the village. After the need for easier access to and from their village, the inhabitants moved further south and at lower altitude. The houses slowly - slowly broke down and disappeared. The only building that is still therem is the small Church of Panagia (Our Lady).
