1974… the beginning of the implementation of the satanic plan for trisection of the island of Cyprus took place the morning of Saturday July 20th. That sad day began like this. "Special military communiqué. It is announced that this morning, Turkish aircraft without notice, sneakily and cowardly…”

An uprising followed, and thousands of Greek Cypriots, of all ages, assisted the efforts of the betrayed National Guard to defend the grounds of their Fatherland along with a handful of the Greek forces.

After the treacherous decision to accept the ceasefire that Turkey sought through the US, the units of the Cyprus army started counting losses. The dead Heroes were 6000. The missing 1700. The displaced 200 000 (some should apologise for the term used today, because officially and according to international regulations, in Cyprus there are no "refugees" but displaced people).

Cyprus from side to side, was dressed in black. Each family had its own dead people. Each community counted its own absences. As a small tribute, each village, each parish, each city set up its own monuments to remind the younger and for the ones to follow to learn, that others gave their lives for them to be free.

One of these monuments is in the village of Agios Constantinos, Limassol and refers to this name "Evangelos Ath. Moullotos". He was a Commando in the most honorable battalion of this weapon, the legendary 32nd Commando battalion and called by history to defend the most important defensive position of the National Guard in Pentadaktylos, the so-called "Aspri Moutti". The enemy was superior in terms of means and numbers. After several hours of fighting, one to one the lads of the 32nd Commando Battalion, embraced the winged victory which took them to eternity. Amongst them was Evangelos.

With the initiative of the mukhtar of Agios Constantinos, who designed the fine marble monument, the statue of the Hero was erected at the foot of the small hill on top of which is the church of Saints Constantinos and Eleni. The two great loves of the Hero, Cyprus and Greece, are always next to him and his companions on the long journey to eternity, that they were obliged to take so quickly and at such a young age. Along with the Greek and Cypriot flags accompanying you day and night on your trip, you also have our thankfulness for Freedom that you gave us with your sacrifice.
