Monuments in Cyprus - Parks in Cyprus - Soldier Michalakis Michael park, Mathikoloni, Limassol

In Mathikoloni, the village that in the past century was abandoned by its residents, either because they moved to their today’s location thus building a new one, or because they went downhill towards the city, a small park is found.

You will find it at the exit of Mathikoloni towards Limassol. It is a small green “hideaway” for every passer. A faucet with potable water, a very small, old stone flour mill, 2-3 attractions for children and a few trees is all that is included in the north part of the park.

In the south part there is a monument in the honour of the Hero of 1974, the soldier Michalakis Michael from Karavas of Kyrenia.

At a small distance from the park of the Soldier, there is a Holy Church of Agios Georgios built in 1983.  It is a vaulted Basilica. The “strange” thing about the Church is the belfry that is found in the middle of the southern wall, next to the entrance. This type of architecture is rarely found in Cyprus.
