Chapels in Cyprus - Agia Irini Chrysovalantou, Mathiatis, Nicosia

In the village of Mathiatis, in Nicosia, inside the pinewoods found southeast of the village, there is a small chapel dedicated to Agia Irini Chrysovalantou.

The small but very beautiful chapel, is an offering realised by the residents of the neighbouring village of Mathiatis, called Agia Varvara.

A couple of worshipers from Agia Varvara of Nicosia, despite their multiple tentatives to have children, they did not succeed to do so.

They then built a small church in the honour of the Saint, with faith that this action of theirs would help them conceive. Indeed, during the construction works of the church, their efforts were successful.

Ever since, many couples from all over Cyprus that have pregnancy problems, run to the small chapel and Agia Irini for help.

You can find the chapel if you take the road from the Sia village to Mathiatis. Just before you enter the village, before you meet the first house, you take the turn on your left. From there one, the chapel is only 700 metres away. Follow the signs that will take you to it. Most of the road is covered in asphalt and the rest is covered in gravel.

Many Cypriot cyclamens are found in the area of the small church. Remember what the law anticipates for eradication or cutting of wildflowers, and do not touch them.
