Another picnic area, a creation of the Department of Forests of Cyprus, is found in the village of Larnaca, Kornos. It is a well designed place and provides the visitor with everything he needs for a calm, safe and pleasant stay.
The picnic tables spread extensively into the young pine forest, while many grills give you the opportunity to prepare your food in full safety and protection of the forest. There are quite a few artificial faucets found all over the picnic area.
The tables were placed in such a way so as to “isolate” to the maximum the groups of excursionists, which is why they have enough distance between each other.
There is a fenced play place for children with many attractions. In winter, after rain, a lake is formed at the centre of the picnic area, as well as a small river which at at least two points transforms into a waterfall of small height.
It is found southeast of the village of Kornos and it is at about 1500 metres from it. The picnic area was created parallel to the old road of Nicosia-Limassol, which was later on transformed into a big highway road as we know it today. This causes some inconvenience to the excursionists, due to the noise the accelerating cars make.
Another disadvantage of the picnic area is the high temperature in the area at summer months. The temperature has a negative function, which is why excursionists avoid using this place during the summer. During the winter, it is a very good and closeby place for the excursionists coming from Nicosia, and this is why it is filled.
It has the capacity to host 850 people, as we were informed by the website of the department of forests.
