The dam of Trimiklini is found 1500 metres north of the Trimiklini village, on the right hand side of the road of Limassol - Troodos. It is a small dam, above the Kouris river, with a storage capacity of 340 thousand cubic metres of water.
It is the only dam in Cyprus that is overflooded, and in combination with the beautiful gorge that was “carved” by the river, with its vertical slopes it offers beautiful images to its visitors.
The dam is made of concrete and the external side is formed in steps, and it makes a deafening noise as the water “descends” this staircase. The continuous completeness and the uninterrupted existence of water made the lake a wonderful biotope.
From the dam, the surrounding areas are irrigated, thus contributing to the development and the prosperity of the settlers of Trimiklini.
The visitor can spend many hours studying the dam and the biodiversity of its area. If you are travelling from Limassol do not neglect to park and enjoy it. If you are travelling from Nicosia you will find it on the junction of the roads Kato Amiantos - Trimiklini and Trimiklini - Platres.
You will find services at the traditional centre of Trimiklini such as restaurants, a petrol station and an outdoor market with fruit and Cypriot sweets. The dam of Trimiklini is a destination that combines a beautiful journey from any district you decide to come from, and the beauty of the destination itself. On some maps you will find it as the “Dam of Saittas” because it neighbours with the village called Saittas.
