On the gold green island of the Mediterranean, Cyprus, there are some locations that are so beautiful that you could easily give them the name “small paradise”. Most of them, either because they are found on far away and inaccessible areas, or just because we did not have the luck to hear about them, remain unknown to us.
A small, magical paradise is the beach of Avdimou which is found on the gulf of Avdimou. It is a small beach, covered in sand and small stones (a little greater than a kilometre in area) that is surrounded by two high capes, thus the sea always “gives” a rhythmic and soft wave splash.
Its width exceeds 30 metres. In terms of administration it belongs to the district of Limassol, but in terms of property it belongs to the United Kingdom, thus it is part of their land. This is probably the reason why such a beautiful beach remains deserted and unknown.
An old, abandoned, stone built building whose reason of existence is unknown, is found a few metres from the shore. There are two cafe-restaurants, one next to the other, and apart from them there is sand, the sea and the sun.
The beach of Avdimou is good for sorties for the families of British soldiers, who serve the military base that is found at a small distance from it. Lonely girls enjoy the silence of the shore under the warm, Mediterranean sun, spending many hours of the Cypriot days laying in the arms of Morpheus.
Where is the beach of Avdimou found?
Upon travelling from Paphos, pass through the tunnel, then you will see the exit towards Avdimou. Follow this exit and at its end, take the turn on your left. Then go straight and in less than 5 minutes you will reach the beach. The road is narrow, and it passes through a huge sea field, where the vines with their gold green colours and their exotic smells, “provoke” you to disobey the 8th commandment which is difficult or even impossible to avoid.
